“Beefing Up Your Golden Years: How Protein Can Help You Age Gracefully”

It is common in my office that men and women over 40 report low energy, brain fog, belly fat and/or weight gain.

Often these clients are not getting adequate protein. Moreover they haven’t been getting enough protein for most of their lives.

Anywhere around the age of 40 and older, our protein needs increase. Since some of us have not gotten enough protein before reaching 40, when our needs increase we find ourselves even further in the hole when it comes to protein. Thus, the unwanted results of weight gain, belly fat, lower energy and brain fog. We think these are common side effects of the aging process when, in fact, they can be improved with diet.

Protein is important for maintaining muscle mass, which can help prevent falls and other injuries. Aging men and women should consume at least one gram of protein per kilogram of weight each day.
